Focus and Scope

Object maintains three primary objectives: to present ongoing research within the Department to a wide readership; to encourage dialogue and debate around existing and emerging ideas in the field; and to review recent publications and exhibitions presented within the wider cultural context.

The content of the journal represents the diversity of objects and issues being pursued by postgraduates in the Department; similarly, the range of methodological strategies with which the authors engage demonstrates how the production and reception of meaning within the visual arts continues to be questioned and renegotiated according to a variety of formal and theoretical priorities.

Peer Review Process

Our status as an accredited journal, confirming our place within the critical literature of art history, is reliant upon the process of external peer review. The review panel, mainly comprising former postgraduate students of the UCL Department of History of Art who now hold academic posts in universities both in Britain and abroad, share their time, knowledge and expertise. We wish to extend to them our gratitude for their contribution.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
